Contactless Debit FAQs

Do I need to do anything to get my new card?

Please ensure smooth delivery and smooth activation of your card by verifying your current address and phone number by logging in to online banking, visiting us in a branch, or calling us at 1-800-800-1577. After receiving your new card at the specified address, you will need to activate the card by calling from the phone number on your account profile.

How do I know if I can tap to pay with my card?

Look for the Contactless Indicator on your card to know if you can use it to tap to pay for purchases.

How do I hold my contactless chip card to the contactless-enabled terminal?

The terminal reads the card the best when it is flat over the Contactless Symbol, versus at an angle.

How long do I need to hold my card to the contactless-enabled terminal?

You should hold your contactless chip card to the terminal for 1-2 seconds. The terminal should indicate when the card has been read.

Can I unknowingly make a purchase if I am near a contactless-enabled terminal?

No. Contactless technology requires the merchant to first initiate the payment, and the contactless chip card must be held in very close proximity to the terminal (1-2 inches) for the transition to take place.

Are contactless chip cards secure?

Yes. Here’s why.
Each First Fed Visa contactless chip card carries the same trusted security as a Visa contact chip card.
The one-time code generated every time a contactless chip card is used at an in-store contactless-enabled terminal protects your information, making it extremely effective in reducing fraud.

Do I need to request a new card? I still have my old non-contactless card.

Your card will be sent to you by the end of July 2022. These will be issued based on the expiration date of your non-contactless card, or as part of a larger reissue. If you still have not received a new contactless debit card by August 2022, please contact us so we can assist with your replacement card.

I’d prefer to keep my old non-contactless card. Is this possible?

All active debit cardholders will be receiving a new contactless debit card. We are dedicated to providing the most secure and convenient technology to our customers. However, your new card still has a chip and can be inserted into point-of-sale terminals if you prefer not to use the contactless features.
